Arterton began her acting career as an amateur in a production of Alan Ayckbourn’s The Boy Who Fell into a Book at Gravesend Grammar School for Girls in Kent (now Mayfield Grammar School). Her performance earned her the medal for best actress in a local festival competition. Arterton left Gravesend Grammar School at the age of 16 to attend the Miskin Theatre at North West Kent College in Dartford, where he studied acting.
