Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) leader and North Antrim assembly member, Jim Allister, said Sir William was “an iconic giant in Ballymena and Northern Ireland”.
“No one has left a more endeavored mark on the economy than Sir William,” Mr. Allister said.
“Many people had very good jobs in Ballymena and got many years of employment thanks to his contribution.
“He was also very much involved in the local community, he served as a counselor at a time and was very prominent in his faith.”
2019 saw Wrightbus at the epicenter of a storm over Ballymena’s Green Pastures Church.
Jeff, the son of Sir William, was the church’s pastor and a key shareholder in Wrightbus at the time.
When Wrightbus entered administration, the family attributed the company’s demise to a decline in bus demand, but many employees expressed worry that money given to the church had harmed the company.
