Erik Griffin is a stand-up comedian, author, and actor best known for his appearances in Comedy Central’s Workaholics, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, I’m Dying Up Here, and Blunt Talk as Montez Walker.

Griffin was raised in Los Angeles by his mother, a Belizean immigrant. He was never introduced to his father.

Career Journey of Erik Griffin

When Griffin indicated interest in becoming a comic, his mother enrolled him in a stand-up comedy class at UCLA Extension. Sandi C. Shore, daughter of The Comedy Store founders Sammy Shore and Mitzi Shore, taught the workshop, which culminated with students performing in a showcase at The Comedy Store. He played many open mics after finishing the class in his 20s before resigning, alleging a lack of mentorship, hubris, and an overall bad experience as reasons for his departure.

In 2003, Griffin resurrected his stand-up career. He previously worked at a school as a basketball coach and office manager.

On February 28, 2013, Griffin taped a half-hour special for Comedy Central. Technical Foul: Volume One, his first stand-up CD, was released on March 12, 2013, later that year.

Erik Griffin: The Ugly Truth debuted on Showtime on July 7, 2017. In June 2018, his next special, Amerikan Warrior, aired on Showtime.
